Important: According to the Employment and Labour Relations Act of 2004 (Employment and Labour Relations Act), employees who work on official public holidays (sikukuu) have the right to receive additional compensation. Typically, that day is paid at double the normal daily wage. Also, if a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Government may declare the following working day as a compensatory public holiday in accordance with national guidelines.
